Ivan Shegota - Power Player 2021

June 4, 2021 - The Boca Raton Observer

When Ivan Shegota joined Coral Gables Trust Company (CGTC) in March 2012 he had three long-term goals: To be a shareholder; to reach $1 billion of assets under management; and to open an office in Boca Raton.

He quickly became a shareholder, saw the firm grow from $280 million of assets under management to $1.7 billion, and in March of last year, just as the COVID-19 pandemic began, CGTC opened its fourth South Florida location in Boca Raton.

In fact, the pandemic didn't stop Shegota from making sure his clients knew he and his team were there for them and that the firm would continue on its path to growth.
"We made a hard push to reach out to our existing clients," Shegota says. "We not only maintained our position in the marketplace, but 2020 was one of our best years as far as growth."

Unlike larger firms, CGTC believes in customized client service and has accomplished its goals by providing creative and flexible solutions at a high level locally.

Founded in 2004, CGTC is the largest independent and privately held trust company headquartered in South Florida. As senior vice president and senior relationship manager, Shegota has been responsible for both the Boca Raton and West Palm Beach offices.

Clients range from first generation wealth creators to ultra-high-net-worth individuals with more than $100 million in investable assets. Besides traditional trust administration, wealth management and financial planning, the Firm handles trust and estate settlements, foundations, special needs trusts and guardianships, and domestication of international trusts. It also handles successor trustee and future appointments.

"We meet with a lot of prospective clients who want a solution upon their passing and we want to make sure we are the go-to team for attorneys doing the drafting of those documents," says Shegota. "We are a strong believer in both current, as well as, future business."

Shegota has lived in Boca Raton since 1983. He married his high school sweetheart, a teacher in Boca Raton, and they have three children, all of whom were born in Boca. "We are here, we are available. This is home," he says.
